Post High School, Post, Texas

Project:

Post High School, Post, Texas

Owner:

Post Independent School District

Description:

Residents of rural Post, Texas, approved a bond issue to upgrade / replace existing school facilities.  BGR Architects was commissioned with designing a new one-story High School on a 3.3 acre site adjacent to the District’s Athletic Sports Arena.  BGR designed a 73,000 square foot facility, providing for all programmed curriculum / support space, while incorporating design features / materials that made the existing Arena and New High School become “one” structure.

The High School provides educational space for 450 students and includes a competition gymnasium, science lab / lecture rooms, a home life suite, art room, distant learning room, computer labs, media center / library, and a performing arts suite including state-of-the-art band hall, choir room, individual practice rooms, ensemble room, and theatrical room with platform.

Addressing the large number of students transported by bus, a large centrally located Commons area lets students enter the main “secure” entry and gather prior to class.  The Commons is adjacent to the Administration Suite and Competition Gym, with direct access to the educational wings.
